Western Star sleeper supplier expands to South Carolina

SALT LAKE CITY (June 22, 1999) — Daw Technologies Inc. announced plans to expand its sleeper cab manufacturing division with a new assembly plant near Charleston, S.C.

The company said it wanted to be closer to a new truck manufacturing facility being built in the Charleston area by Western Star Trucks. Daw makes sleeper cab components used on Western Star models.

Daw said it plans to lease approximately 30,000 square feet of manufacturing space where it will duplicate its sleeper cab manufacturing operation currently in Salt Lake City, which supplies sleepers to Western Star’s plant in Kelowna, B.C. The Charleston facility is expected to be in operation in the fourth quarter of 1999 and will employ approximately 50 workers.

The addition of the Charleston operation will substantially increase the number of sleeper cabs the company is currently producing. Salt Lake will continue at its current production rate, the company said.

Daw also manufactures a line of tractor sleeper shells for heavy-duty truck manufacturers, doorless air entrance systems for large retail establishments, and engages in contract manufacturing.
