Workers Compensation Rates Drop For Alberta Truckers

ROCKY VIEW, AB- In 2015, general and specialized trucking companies in Alberta will pay a smaller rate for Workers Compensation Board (WCB) coverage, according to the Alberta Motor Transport Association.

WCB rate groups General Trucking and Specialized Trucking will see a decrease in their 2015 premiums of 10.22 percent and 12.95 percent respectively.

WCB premiums are determined for each group category based on the number of workplace injury claims experienced by that group. Employers pay higher or lower rates based on the actual performance of their group.

Categories with a decrease in injuries are rewarded with lower premiums.

  2015 WCB rates:

  • $3.34: General Trucking rates for 2015, down from $3.72;
  • $2.42: Specialized Trucking rates for 2015, down from $2.78;
  • $3.02: Garbage Collection and Disposal rates for 2015, up from $3.00, a 0.67-percent increase.
