WEST POINT, Miss. — Yokohama today broke ground at its new commercial truck tire manufacturing plant in Mississippi.

The new plant will begin operations in October 2015, the company announced. The event was attended by local dignitaries and Yokohama officials.

The company says it will invest US$300 million into the facility, generating about 500 jobs in the first phase. The factory will be about a million square feet and sits on more than 500 acres of land. It will offer production, warehousing and operations facilities and will be able to produce about a million truck tires per year, the company says.
