WOODSTOCK, Ont. — It’s official: Contrans Group has acquired the van division of MacKinnon Transport.

The division will immediately be combined with Contrans’ Laidlaw Carriers Van LP operations. The purchase includes the contracts of about 80 drivers and owner/operators as well as the sublease of equipment.

Contrans said in a release it would continue servicing MacKinnon’s van division customers.

“This is a real boost for the growth of our Laidlaw Van division,” said Contrans’ chairman and CEO Stan Dunford. “The combination of MacKinnon’s van business with our existing operations will provide a benefit to drivers and customers and will generate overall efficiencies. It has been a pleasure working with the MacKinnon team through their restructuring process and we are pleased to add this division to our group.”

As first reported by Trucknews.com in mid-December, MacKinnon Transport filed a notice of intent in order to restructure its operations. It will return to its flatdeck roots while the Contrans acquisition of the van division ensures the continued employment of those drivers.
