BURLINGTON, Ont. – With schools in for another education year, those travelling Hwy. 407 should pay extra attention while rolling through the Burlington area. Parents and school officials fear Hwy. 407 will become a deathtrap for Burlington children who find the new highway extension blocking their shortcuts to neighborhood schools.

“We are going to have a huge problem (with) schools reopened,” says M.M. Robinson teacher Chuck Atkins. “You just can’t compete with trucks and cars going 100 km/h.”

Atkins’ comments came on the heels of the death of a 15-year-old Hamilton girl, struck while crossing the highway. n
