MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Eaglebrook and Praxair Canada have been awarded the Private Motor Truck Council and Zurich Canada Award for Safety Performance.

Eaglebrook, which is involved in the chemical business, won the award in the medium-duty fleet category. The 20-tractor, 25-trailer, 3-straight truck fleet, accumulated 3.5 million km with only a single accident last year, and that was determined to be non-preventable. The fleet also boasts of a zero defect rating with MTO in random inspections and as of June 2001 was operating at about 10 per cent of the threshold of allowable CVOR points.

Praxair won its award in the large fleet category, marking the fourth consecutive year this carrier of industrial gases and supplies has been judged the safest private fleet in the land. The 74-tractor, 173-trailer and 94-rail car fleet has a preventable accident frequency rate of 1.66 per 1.6 million km. Its all-accident frequency sits at a rate of 2.89 per 1.6 million km and its lost workday cases rate is running at zero per 200,000 hours.

The Safety Performance Award competition is open to all private carriers. Judging is conducted by an independent panel and follows established criteria that concentrate on the company’s overall safety regime and its over-the-road record.
