LONDON, Ont. – The City of London is already planning ahead for construction of a ring road, which may be decades from becoming a reality.

City council approved a plan this month to protect a corridor around the city for the future development of an expressway.

Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco voted to set aside land for the road.

“The best thing is, we made a decision,” says the Mayor, who was among the project’s supporters.

But just because council was happy that didn’t mean everyone was pleased with the decision.

London resident Bill Demopoulos tells local media, “This is our third or fourth kick at the can and every time the experts keep saying a ring road isn’t necessary.”

He adds that the city will spend $10 million before any pavement is even laid down, despite the fact that traffic into the city hasn’t reached problematic levels.
