CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Trucks rolling to Western P.E.I. will soon enjoy a more visually appealing journey as a result of continuing efforts to enhance the natural environment around Island roads.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works and the Evangeline Tourism Association launched a second Highway Naturalization Pilot Project along the Western Road through the Miscouche area.

The Western Highway Naturalization Pilot Project will utilize a technique known as selective tree removal.

Undesirable tree species would be removed to provide more space for native trees along the roadside.

This will enhance the view and increase safety through improved visibility, according to project leaders.

Staff from the Department of Transportation and Public Works will conduct this selective tree removal over a two-kilometre section of the western road between Wellington and Miscouche.

The Western Highway Naturalization Pilot Project is anticipated to take approximately six weeks to complete.
