Top earners see $.08/buck

OTTAWA, Ont. – Operating ratios of the 2,900 fleets earning $1 million or more increased by one point to 0.92, according to Statistics Canada.

That means for every dollar they brought in during the second quarter, eight cents of it was profit.

Operating revenues totalled $5.4 billion, an increase of 10.2 per cent from the second quarter of 2000. At the same time, operating expenses reached $4.9 billion, up 9.6 per cent.
