MINNEAPOLIS, Min. – PeopleNet has released a new white paper aimed at helping companies get the most return from their fleets while abiding by the new Electronic Logging Device (ELD) regulations.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration began developing an ELD mandate as a means of improving safety within the trucking industry, particularly with relation to hours of service violations and fatigued drivers, and help reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities as a result.
The mandate will hold drivers and carriers to elevated safety standards, and at the same time, remove the highest risk drivers, vehicles and carriers from the roads – in total, expected to affect around 3.1 million trucks and 3.4 million drivers.
PeopleNet’s white paper, titled ‘Considerations for Complying with the ELD Mandate,’ is a guide for companies in the wake of the ELD regulations.
“We understand that fleet managers have questions regarding the ELD mandate, particularly around what action they need to take and when,” said Elise Chianelli, director, safety and compliance at PeopleNet. “This white paper explains what the mandate means for the transportation industry and how companies can ensure their drivers stay safe and compliant.”
The white paper touches upon several topics, including what the proposed mandate entails, the functions and features of ELDs and advice on how to plan a successful implementation of the devices into existing systems.
