SASKATOON, Sask. – David Buckingham, a commercial driver who turned to politics after 36 years in the car hauling business, defeated Saskatchewan’s NDP leader in the Saskatoon Westview riding during yesterday’s (April 4) provincial election.

Buckingham, a member of the centre-right Saskatchewan Party, narrowly beat out Cam Broten with the Saskatoon Star Phoenix saying it was one of the closest races in the election – Buckingham garnered 232 more votes than his NDP counterpart.

Buckingham was born and raised in the Saskatchewan farming community of Shellbrook. He moved to Saskatoon in 1979 to pursue a career as a commercial driver.

In 1988, Buckingham and his wife moved to Borden, where he acted as mayor for two terms and councillor for one term prior.
