SAN DIEGO, Cal. — Fremont Contract Carriers of Fremont, Nebraska and Paramount Freight Systems of Ft. Myers, Florida were named the Best Fleets to Drive For, for company drivers and owner/operators respectively.

The grand prize winners were announced at the Truckload Carriers Association convention.

Fremont was recognized for its extensive bonus programs, including rewards for: mile production; fuel performance; minimizing out-of-route miles; and company profitability in addition to standards safety and referral bonuses. It also provides strong driver/dispatcher relations, solid maintenance programs and continuing investments in safety technology, announced Mark Murrell, president of CarriersEdge which, along with the TCA, administers the program.

Paramount was named top fleet for owner/operators for offering  steady miles and home time as well as a range of insurance options at reasonable rates and conducting quarterly surveys to collect input on company programs. The carriers also has a ‘buddy’ system that ensures a smooth transition for new contractors.

“The 2011 overall winners of this contest are clearly doing all the right things to provide a desirable workplace for their company drivers and owner/operators,” Murrell said. “The testimonials that were collected through our survey demonstrate that despite a recession, innovation and high standards can still attract and retain satisfied drivers.”

“All 20 of the companies named as Best Fleets winners in January have outstanding driver programs, but FCC and PFS, in particular, have risen above the rest,” added John Kaburick, outgoing TCA chair. “We are pleased to be able to honour them for excellence within the trucking industry.”

Out of the 20 Best Fleets finalists, six Canadian carriers made the prestigious list, including: Bison Transport of Winnipeg, Man., Erb Group of New Hamburg, Ont., Brian Kurtz Trucking of Breslau, Ont., MacKinnon Transport of Guelph, Ont., Vedder Transportation Group of Abbotsford, B.C., and Yanke Group of Saskatoon, Sask. Trimac Transportation’s Houston, Texas operations also made the cut.
