OTA Education Foundation announces new scholarship for post-secondary tuition and fees

by Truck News

TORONTO, Ont. – The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) Education Foundation has launched a new scholarship for students looking for financial assistance for post-secondary education.

The George P. Ledson Scholarship was officially announced by the OTA Education Foundation chair Scott Smith Nov. 5 during the association’s 89th convention, with details on the program being released in the coming months leading up to the 2016/17 scholarship application package.

The scholarship’s namesake was a 20-year member of the OTA Education Foundation board of directors, which came to a conclusion this year, and was recognized for his ‘long-standing support, unwavering commitment and his passion, dedication and outstanding support for the trucking industry and its people.’

Ledson, of Cavalier transportation, received a plaque for his time and support of the OTA Education Foundation and said it was “quite a surprise” when he was called to the podium to collect the hardware.

He encouraged the trucking industry to continue to support the foundation’s scholarship program, stepping down as an OTA Education Foundation board member to make room for new participants.
