Recruitment the focus of Women with Drive summit
TORONTO, ON - Recruitment and retention will be the topic of discussion at Trucking HR Canada's fourth annual Women with Drive summit being held March 1, 2018 in Toronto. The panel discussion will focus on company branding on multiple platforms and how that can influence or help companies attract employees. Called "Outside in" the panel will feature experts from the social media platform Linkedin, and the employment website Workopolis. The panel will talk about attracting women and other under-represented groups to the trucking industry.
FortisBC unveils new CNG station
KAMLOOPS, BC - Fleets using compressed natural gas (CNG) in British Columbia now have one more place to refuel. FortisBC held the grand opening of its newest CNG filling station in Kamloops, today. The utility offered a behind-the-scenes look at its operations to those on-hand for the big unveiling.
CTEA conference looks to the future
WINDOSR, ON - From the future of carbon pricing to the latest in trailer manufacturing, the 2017 Canadian Transportation Equipment Association's (CTEA) annual conference and trade fair is looking forward with optimism. Called "Up the Ante: Innovate!," the 54th annual manufacturers conference is being held at Caesar's Windsor Oct. 23-25, and is being billed as a place for members, vocational truck manufacturers, their dealers, suppliers, and service providers to network.
Atlantic educational session handles hot topics
TURO, NS - The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC) is bringing its half-day cross-country educational sessions to Atlantic Canada. Partnering with Trucking Human Resources Sector Council Atlantic, the group will be hosting the regional session as part of its educational tour of the country, Oct. 12.

Prepare for eclipse distraction and congestion Monday
WASHINGTON, D.C. - For two minutes on Monday the world will go dark in 14 states, causing a huge distraction for drivers. Although there are about two solar eclipses a year visible from somewhere on Earth, August 21 marks the first time a total solar eclipse will be able to be viewed from the mainland United States in 38 years.

Development of autonomous technology still faces a lot of obstacles including, one panel noted, snowbanks.
Trimble announces new transportation divisions
NASHVILLE, TN - Trimble has created two new divisions as part of its transportation segment. The company made the announcement August 14 as part of day one of the In.Sight User Conference and Expo 2017, hosted by Trimble companies TMW Systems and PeopleNet. Presidents Brian McLaughlin and David Wangler are heading up the new divisions, while also keeping their old titles.

SCHAUMBURG, IL - Advanced driver assistance systems like the ones that sound an alarm if you're tailgating -- or even apply vehicle brakes automatically -- are proving themselves to be more than a novelty. Schneider has already equipped 12,000 of its trucks with autonomous emergency braking systems that will act if a crash seems imminent. Related collisions have now dropped by 69% and their severity has plunged 95%, says Thomas DiSalvi, the fleet's vice president - safety and loss prevention. "This is ready for prime time." The underlying technologies have clearly come a long way, according to participants in a roundtable hosted this week by the U.S. National Safety Council.
