ArvinMeritor adds two air disc brakes

Air disc brakes comprise a fraction of the over-the-road truck and trailer market in North America, but they’ve made real inroads among fire and rescue fleets, hazmat haulers, and other safety-conscious outfits that buy discs for better stopping power.

ArvinMeritor has updated its DiscPlus line of air disc brakes with two new models for trucks and trailers. The EX225L offers a 35-per-cent boost in torque, a 15-per-cent increase in wearable lining volume, and is 12-per-cent lighter than the DX225 it replaces. The EX225H, for vehicles with heavy-duty braking demands like coaches and fire trucks, offers even more wearable lining volume and torque.
Both EX225 models use a modular sliding caliper design that installs in 22.5-inch wheel envelopes, and have sealed synchronized twin pistons and robust sealing of slide pins. Options include an electronic pad wear sensor, an electrical pad wear warning indicator, and a visual wear indicator.
