BAE Systems, Eaton expand EV collaboration for heavy-duty applications

by Today's Trucking

BAE Systems and Eaton are collaborating to provide electric drive systems for heavy-duty trucks.

The systems will be provided to truck OEMs, allowing them to roll out a range of zero-emission platforms, the companies announced. BAE and Eaton have worked together since signing an MoU in 2023 under which they will supply electric drive technologies to the medium-duty market. The expanded collaboration will also cover commercial trucks above 19 tons.

BAE Systems provides the electric motor and power electronics, while Eaton contributes its 4-speed EV transmission.

“We are combining our expertise and proven technology to provide customers with a complete EV solution,” said Bob Lamanna, vice-president and general manager of power and propulsion solutions at BAE Systems.

“By expanding our scope to include more vehicle ratings, our robust system ensures high performance and reliability across a wider range of classes and sizes,” added Mark Kramer, business unit director, ePowertrain, Eaton’s Vehicle Group.
