Bridgestone R213 Ecopia steer tire boosts fuel efficiency

by Today's Trucking

Bridgestone has unveiled a longhaul steer tire that offers a higher fuel efficiency than any other tire it has designed for the position and application.

The R213 Ecopia tire also promises significant improvements to wear performance when compared to the Bridgestone R284. Directional sipes resist scrub and offer up to 15% more mileage with the newest member of the Ecopia product family, the company says. A redesigned tread pattern, combined with the tire’s compound, reduces weight and improves rolling resistance and fuel efficiency by 6%.

The four-rib design includes a NanoPro-Tech polymer to limit energy losses and enhance stiffness, while the Intellishape sidewall includes less bead filler volume to reduce tire weights. Center rib sipes evacuate water and improve traction on wet surfaces, while directions stress relief sipes absorb shoulder edge forces in the footprint.

Directional stress relief sipes are used to absorb shoulder edge forces, while a redesigned side groove better resists irregular wear, Bridgestone says.

The R213 Ecopia is SmartWay verified, and will be offered in eight different variations – with four sizes and two load ranges per size.
