ConMet introduces lightweight brake drum

ConMet
ConMet, a provider of lightweight component technology for the heavy-duty transport industry, announced a new brake drum family known as CastLite, which is said to provide over 25 per cent weight savings over a standard drum.

The company says its computer-optimized shape is what gives the CastLite drum a weight advantage, while patent pending lightweight features in both the front and rear drums also contribute to making the drum about 13 pounds lighter. The optimized shape and thermal properties of the gray iron material the drum is made of permit heat to escape, ensuring that the drum shape remains consistent, even during periods of extensive brake usage.

The CastLite brake drum, available either balanced or unbalanced, has been through rigorous laboratory, track, and fleet testing, and has exceeded accepted criteria in stopping distance, durability, and performance drag tests, according to the company.
