ConMet reveals coming products

ConMet is offering a sneak peek at coming additions to its product portfolio, ranging from a coated rotor, to new monitors, and controls that will electronically disconnect wheel hubs.

The coated, flat rotor will fight corrosion in high-heat brake rotor applications, the company says. Another coming wheel end offering will include a new PreSet Plus efficiency package with a proprietary low-drag seal and advanced bearings.

Meanwhile, a coming ConMet Digital Driver app will give drivers a better view of the data to improve the accuracy and speed of pre-trip inspections, helping to determine when action needs to be taken during a trip.

SmartAir axle load and SmartAir line pressure monitoring is also in the works.

Looking to electric vehicles, ConMet is developing an electronic wheel hub disconnect technology that, when incorporated in an electric drive axle, will enable a 6×4 to convert to a 4×2 at the flick of a switch or automatically when reaching a set speed. This will help extend EV range when applied at highway speeds and can be used to transport new tractors, the company says.

The details were described during the spring meeting of the Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC).

“Since 1964, our innovation-first mindset has enabled us to solve the problems of the commercial vehicle industry,” ConMet president John Waters said in a press release. “Our deep industry roots and expertise – especially surrounding the wheel end – allow us to continually develop new ways of making vehicles lighter, safer, and more efficient.”
