Continental rolls out ‘smart’ tire

Continental’s Conti HSR 3 regional steer tire can be spec’d as an “intelligent” tire, with a sensor installed to communicate tire inflation pressures and other parameters through various apps and tools, including a yard reader.

Replacing the HSR 2, it is built on the Conti 3G casing with the promise of improved durability and retreadability, the company says. An enhanced belt package withstands highly concentrated pressure and increases penetration resistance. It also reduces the build up of heat.

Earlier this year, Continental launched a new line of intelligent construction tires, that come from the factory with sensors installed. The HSR 3 is the first non-construction tire that can be ordered with the sensor installed. The sensors, made by Continental, can also be retrofit in other tires.
