DISC-BRAKED TRAILERS

Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems is now offering its single-piston PAN 22 Series air disc brake on three Meritor trailer suspensions — the new trailing-arm 23,000-lb air suspension and RideSentry air-ride MPA 20 and 38/40,000-lb models.

With the new Meritor integrated weld on the axle’s torque plate, an aluminum hub, flat-style rotor and axle ratings up to 23,000 lb, the air-disc-brake model  is said to be one of the lightest disc brake packages available. It’s best suited to 22.5-in. wheels.

An optimized pad size increases lining life to maximize vehicle uptime, the company says, and an integral moulded friction pad “virtually eliminates” rustjacking. Among its other features is an internally sealed, automatic adjuster that minimizes out-of-adjustment occurrences. The brake weighs just 79 lb including pads.

The PAN 22 is now available on the most popular trailer suspensions in the industry.
