ECO-SENSITIVE TIRE

Yokohama has added a new tire to its Zenvironment line, the 101ZL, a "premium" long-haul steer tire. The company says the tire provides "at least a 10% increase in overall tread life and significant resistance to irregular wear.”

The tire has been added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay list of verified technologies for tires. The other tires in Yokohama’s Zenvironment line are the 703ZL, 103ZR and 501ZA.

Feature include Zenvironment construction, which is said to control casing growth and reduce strain in the shoulder and bead areas for low rolling resistance and better fuel efficiency. Pressure-equalizer sipes aim to optimize rib contact pressure to resist uneven wear and improve wet-weather braking and handling. And multiple sipes are claimed to create a footprint that optimizes rib-edge contact pressure that helps to eliminate irregular wear.

The 101ZL won’t be available until October, coming in these four sizes: 295/75R22.5, 11R22.5, 11R24.5 and 285/75R24.5.
