Haldex offers air disc brakes

Haldex Brake Systems
4/24/02 — Haldex Brake Systems is introducing a new generation of air disc brakes designed for the North American market.

With configurations to fit 19.5-inch and 22.5-inch wheel applications, the Haldex Air Disc Brake features quadruple stainless steel caliper slide pins and Teflon slide pin bushings requiring no lubrication and twin tappet application design for even distribution of braking forces and longer brake lining life.

The four slide pins are identical and interchangeable, eliminating the need for specific calipers for right-hand and left-hand applications, the company says. The resulting compact brake design enables the brake to be easily integrated into nearly every heavy commercial vehicle design and, because the application and adjustment mechanism is supplied as a single, integrated module, it simplifies future service and reduces the need for replacement parts.

The mechanism uses a twin tappet design for even distribution of braking forces and longer brake lining life. Brake linings are easily replaced, with no special tooling required to adjust the brake when relining. Each tappet or piston is sealed with a rubber bellows to protect against water and contaminants, in addition to a heat shield which protects it from heat radiation, stones and other debris.
