HINO GETS ULTRASHIFT

Eaton’s UltraShift Highway Value (HV) transmission will be offered by Hino Trucks on their 2009-model-year 268A and 338 class 6 and 7 truck models, with claimed fuel savings over a conventional automatic.

Eaton claims that independent tests, conducted in accordance with SAE J1526 TMC/SAE Type III procedures, measured the UltraShift HV transmission against a conventional automatic transmission and determined that the UltraShift HV transmission delivered fuel economy savings from 6 to 19%, depending on the duty cycle.

The UltraShift HV is a fully automated transmission system for class 6 and 7 vehicles with diesels in the 195-260 hp range. It can handle torque capacities up to 660 lb ft and loads up to 33,000 lb GVW. It’s aimed at pickup/delivery, service/utility and recovery applications.

A key feature of the UltraShift HV is no scheduled maintenance, with no filters to change. It also includes ‘hill assist’ which automatically minimizes rollback on grades up to 10%.
