Hyliion electric/natural gas range extender for Class 8 trucks
Hyliion’s Hypertruck Electric Range Extender offers an electric powertrain for longhaul Class 8 trucks.
Combining a fully electric drivetrain and an onboard natural gas generator to recharge the batteries, it offers a range of more than 1,600 km. The powertrain also produces electricity at about 30% less than the average grid cost, the company says.
It’s being marketed as the only Class 8 truck achieving net-negative greenhouse gas emissions using renewable natural gas. The truck also offers a 40-km pure electric range to comply with Zero Emission Zones, and uses a machine learning algorithm to optimize everything from performance to maintenance.
The Hypertruck ERX will feature Dana’s electric motor, inverter and axle technologies, while Dana will also provide manufacturing capabilities.
