Hyliion enhances hybrid powertrain

Hyliion has enhanced its hybrid powertrain with the release of the Hyliion Hybrid eX, promising a system that will be lighter and easier to install, service and operate.

Changes include a consolidated battery box to help streamline installations, and a new e-axle to enhance efficiency, the company says. Software and cloud connectivity have also been refined to deliver proprietary software updates more efficiently. There are advancements in cybersecurity, too.

The system is controlled by drivers using the Hyliion Co-Pilot tablet and interface. A cooling unit is centrally mounted in the frame rails to enhance the cooling for the battery enclosure and e-Axle alike.

The e-axle itself includes the electric motor.

There’s also a new automatic traction-assist feature and updated control interfaces.
