Lighter driveshaft for downspeeding

Dana is beginning production on its new SPL 350 Lite driveshaft that has been optimized for high-efficiency on-highway and heavy-haul vehicles which rely on downspeeding. It supports axle ratios lower than 2.26:1, which is today’s fastest ratio for 6×4 tandem axle configurations.

About 35 pounds lighter than existing products, the new driveshaft is the lightest in its class, Dana says. Other cited benefits include enhanced vehicle dynamics and the durability demanded by the fast axle ratios that are needed for downspeeding.

With just six individual components the driveshaft is also less complex and easier to install, adds Steve Slesinski, director – global product planning.

The SPL 350 Lite has 11 fewer components than existing SPL 350 driveshafts, and is offered with the choice of service-free or a standard re-lube design. The related universal joint kits are also fully interchangeable.
