MATS REPORT: Canadian reliner partners with Bendix Spicer brake venture

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC has formed a strategic alliance with Ontario-based brake reliner Gorilla Brake & Components Inc.

The deal gives Bendix Spicer a stronger stake in the remanufactured brake shoe business, the company said in an announcement at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

Gorilla Brake will remanufacture relined shoes under its own brand as well as for private label brands for and select customers and distributors.

“Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake’s equity stake in Gorilla Brake is a significant step in our respective short- and long-term business growth goals as well as an exceptional opportunity to more effectively serve the needs of our North American aftermarket customer base,” said Kishor Pendse, president of Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake.

With a focus on new and remanufactured brake shoes and kits, the alliance will be virtually transparent to existing Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake customers. There will be no change to the ordering or delivery process as it has been established, according to the company.

“This partnership enables us to offer our customers the full gamut of technology and engineering for today and tomorrow, partnered with a comprehensive range of friction materials to enable multiple tier — or good, better, best — product offerings and an outstanding distribution and delivery network,” said Andre LaLonde, president of Gorilla Brake in a press release.

Gorilla Brake’s total annual remanufacturing capacity exceeds 2 million shoes and its state-of-the-art operations adhere to the rigorous quality standards required for Bendix brand products from Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake. The management team at Gorilla Brake is comprised of more than 100 years of industry experience in manufacturing high quality reline shoes.
