MTO offers Operation Air Brake educational sessions

TORONTO, — Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation will be piloting a new brake safety awareness initiative as part of Brake Safety Awareness Week Aug. 28 to Sep. 3, 2005.

Brake Safety Awareness Week is part of the Operation Air Brake Campaign organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. It is an ongoing effort dedicated to improving inspection, compliance, maintenance and performance of commercial vehicle brakes throughout North America. Awareness Week will emphasize education and awareness to drivers, mechanics and others who impact on the safe operation of commercial vehicles.

MTO will have CVSA certified inspectors present at two locations to speak with drivers and mechanics as well as distribute literature on the importance of commercial vehicle brake safety, the Ontario Trucking Association reports.

Inspectors will be at the Fort Erie Travel Plaza on August 30th and at the Fifth Wheel Truck Stop in Grimsby on August 31st from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. One of MTO’s mobile truck inspection stations will be on-site and a banner will be displayed identifying their presence. Inspectors will be available to discuss brake safety and offer other assistance as requested to interested visitors.
