Peterbilt offers new rollover technology to protect drivers

by Truck News

DENTON, Texas – Peterbilt Motors Company announced Nov. 19 its new technology aimed at protecting truck drivers in the event of a rollover.

The RollTek protections system, which is integrated with the premium Atlas II driver seats, is currently in production for Peterbilt’s flagship on-highway Model 579 and vocational Model 567.

The Atlas II seat with the RollTek system is an optional, factory-installed feature, and is fully integrated with the truck’s electrical and air systems.

“A sensor located under the seat constantly monitors the angular position of the vehicle and activates when it detects an imminent rollover,” said Scott Newhouse, Peterbilt’s chief engineer. “When activated, RollTek deploys side-roll airbags, tightens the safety belt and lowers the seat to help reduce injury risk and maximize safety for operators.”

Newhouse said Peterbilt has continued to expand safety features on its vehicles through initial design, like panoramic visibility and the new RollTek system. He also said that Peterbilt was the only truck manufacturer that offers both front air-disc brakes and electronic stability control as standard equipment on its Class 8 conventional trucks.

Peterbilt Motors Company is a Denton, Texas-based truck manufacturer that offers various services and support to its clients, including innovative engineering, fuel efficient solutions and 24/7 complimentary customer assistance.
