Phillips Connect adds efficient tire sensor

by Today's Trucking

Phillips Connect will be the exclusive supplier of STE North America’s tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensor.

Based on what’s referred to as Micro.sp technology, the design is reportedly 300% more energy-efficient than Bluetooth and other radio frequency (RF) systems. The sensors are widely used in Europe and don’t have to be removed to add air to the tire.

A small pass-through transmitter is embedded directly in the air hose.

The tire data is transmitted through the Phillips Connect Smart Trailer Gateway. Tire pressure, and optional air tank and automatic tire inflation system (ATIS) pressure is communicated twice a day or on demand, whether a trailer is parked in a yard or coupled to a tractor.

The sensors come with an eight-year warranty, and can be installed in less than a minute per tire.
