Prestolite begins production on Extreme alternators

by Today's Trucking

Prestolite Electric will begin to produce a new line of Leece-Neville IdlePro Extreme 24-volt, 275-amp brushless alternators later this month.

The high-efficiency and high-output alternators offer exceptional output at lower engine speeds, in a package that features lighter weights and requires less maintenance, the company says.

The units weigh 39 lb., and feature operating temperatures that run from -40 to 125 Celsius. An auxiliary draft cooling design controls the temperature of the front bearing.

The alternators offer the power to maintain vehicle system voltage requirements, too, leading to better battery life and greater overall uptime.

Features include an isolated ground, which eliminates tray voltage and protects the engine from potentially severe electrolytic damage – eliminating the electrical noise that can cause ghost or false engine codes.

The housing is e-coated, and there are dual cable terminals.

They’re covered by a three-year, 560,000-km warranty.
