SMARTWAY TRAILER SPEC
A partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program, Great Dane offers performance specifications and options for new and existing trailers that achieve greater fuel efficiency.
Options in the EPA-certified SmartWay trailer spec are available on 53-foot or longer dry freight vans from Great Dane, and the base trailer model must be equipped and/or retrofitted with the following: aluminum wheels, low-rolling-resistance tires, side skirts, front fairings, and construction with lightweight materials.
The company has been actively engaged in exploring aerodynamic efficiencies with EPA, Wal-Mart, and other industry players for some time. In recent tests with International Truck and Engine, the Great Dane trailer’s aero design yielded a double-digit aerodynamic improvement.
