TRAILER AIR SUSPENSION

SAF-Holland says its new SAF CBX40 air suspension integrates key technologies from the former SAF and Holland organizations. It incorporates a high-strength slider box with the QwikRelease Pin Pull for easy slider adjustments. The company says its SwingAlign feature means fast axle alignment, and cast-beam trailing arm construction brings weight reduction without sacrificing strength.

As well, the CBX40’s axle and braking system differentiates the system from other products, the company suggests – namely the new 5.75-in. diameter X Series axle, drum brake configurations, and optional ‘Integral Disc’ brake technology offer. The system is built  at the company’s new axle plant in Warrenton, Missouri,

The CBX40 was branded as an SAF product, the company says, to align with a global branding strategy to migrate all trailer suspension systems to the SAF brand. Over time, all trailer suspension systems will carry the SAF brand as new technology is integrated into the product line.

The Integral-Disc option offered on the CBX40 improves braking performance and efficiency while significantly lowering maintenance costs and downtime, , as all air discs do,. A proprietary bi-metallic casting process mechanically combines the rotor and adapter-flange into a single rotor assembly. The bi-metallic rotor assembly is designed to control the effects of heat, which prevents uncontrolled deformation and hot spots. Instead, this  rotor expands in a radial direction under extreme braking conditions, keeping rotor surfaces flat and stable. This helps to minimize the risk of premature rotor failure, while extending brake pad and bearing life.
