Volvo Makes I-Shift Standard on All Trucks in North America

LOUISVILLE — Volvo is making its I-Shift automated manual transmission (AMT)  standard on all Volvo-powered trucks delivered into the North American market.

Goran Nyberg, the president of Volvo Trucks North America, made the announcement Thursday morning at the Mid-America Truck Show.

In his presentation, Goran cited several studies that show automated transmissions like the I-shift not only make driving easier, they improve driver retention; they are safer and they’re usually lighter than their non-automated counterparts.

According to the American Trucking Associations’ comprehensive safety publication Safety for the Long Haul, AMTs like the Volvo I-Shift can help reduce the rate of crashes among inexperienced drivers by 26 percent and reduce the crash rate of experienced drivers by 22 percent.

Volvo has already old more than 330,000 I-shifts globally and more than 80 percent of trucks sold have the I-shift.
