ZF PowerLine transmission coming to North America

ZF is bringing its PowerLine eight-speed automatic transmission to North America, serving trucks from Class 3 up to a Baby 8. It will debut with an unnamed OEM in early 2021.

The PowerLine can manage up to 1,000 lb-ft of torque and gross combination weights of 57,000 lb.

Comparing the transmission to competitive six-speed products, ZF says the PowerLine provides 30% faster acceleration and the best power-to-weight ratio in the industry.

There are already more than 15 million of the torque converter-style automatic transmission on the road in other markets.
