OPG subsidiary set up to help fleets transition to electric power

by Today's Trucking

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has set up a subsidiary dubbed PowerON Energy Solutions, to help fleets set up the charging infrastructure needed to electrify some or all of their fleet.

PowerON promises to support large-scale electrification projects by providing turnkey solutions, including: infrastructure delivery and management; operations and maintenance; on-site generation, battery storage and back-up power; and smart charging and energy management.

“PowerON is leveraging Ontario’s clean electricity to help decarbonize other sectors,” said PowerON’s Theresa Dekker.“We know electrification of transportation is a high impact strategy to help meet climate change goals, and we have the infrastructure and large project expertise necessary to enable municipal and other fleets to make the transition.”

“Ontario’s grid, one of the cleanest in the world, is well-placed to support electrification of transportation and other sectors,” added Ontario Minister of Energy Todd Smith. “We welcome creation of PowerON to help Ontario fleets use the province’s clean energy to drive economic growth.”

  • A very good idea .we also need to look at shore power to reduce trucks running for heat and a c and those homeless people living in cars with children in Ontario

  • When will the educated get educated. The harm of electric vehicles and all the technology make the world hotter will not fix green house gases. Electric is cheaper right now till the government taxes you on mpu then you will all cry. Most batteries are not recyclable and are toxic to the environment.
The plant will become hotter under this plan and more expensive, all are not fooled. Trees depend on a certain amount of carbon the EPA took that away in 1996 so we will keep losing our forestry to the uneducated so call government hoaxes that they can fix this with money no amount of money can fix the warming of the planet, if we stop mining in the core of the earth for thing that make our magnetic force field we can manage the carbon and the heat by not cutting down trees that give oxygen to world maintain a balance of human growth in these countries. Instead government inject human life in place that need the growth of trees and foods source, so in time there will be nothing left but an over heated world with no oxygen or food.

    • Better batteries to reduce trucks running to keep warm and cool and local in city delivery is a good idea. Long term we need fuel cells and better motors.. hydro has a place but we should not expect to replace long haul.trucks or long distance buses . We.need to have cheap Shore power to make any electric cars or vans work.
