CHATHAM, Ont. — International dealers, as well as regional and national account managers, can now order Class 8 tractors with Air-Weigh on-board truck scales pre-installed.

The new Waycon International New Truck Processing Center — a 40,000 sq. ft., 35-bay facility located next to both the International assembly plant in Chatham — will complete the work. The International Chatham Assembly Plant is the manufacturer’s largest Class 8 facility, where most 9000I Series conventionals are built. In 2000, more than 4,500 new International Class 8s were processed by Waycon’s New Truck Processing Center before being delivered to customer locations and dealers as road-ready vehicles.

“In addition to Air-Weigh scales, our New Truck Processing Center installs a wide variety of non-factory features and options to meet a customer’s transportation needs,” says Brad Connor, New Truck Processing Center manager. “These pre-inservice items include vinyl graphics packages, Eaton VORAD collision vehicle warning systems, auxiliary electrical power systems, add-on sleeper bunks, automatic chassis lube systems, and much more.”

Air-Weigh scales allow the driver to monitor the actual on-the-ground weight of the entire vehicle to ensure the load does not exceed weight laws. As well, the driver can make sure the load is legally distributed over the axles without paying a commercial scale.

With on-board scales, the truck never leaves the loading site overweight and can move directly from the shipper to the receiver without a weight-related delay, the company concludes.
