Alberta carriers to be monitored closely

EDMONTON, Alta. — Alberta carriers will be under more scrutiny from the government, as Alberta Transportation begins monitoring collision rates and Out of Service rates.

Under the Alberta National Safety Code program, carriers were previously monitored based on court charges.

But that’s expanding to include collision rates and Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspection results.

Carriers with an unacceptable amount of Out of Service condemnations will be disciplined progressively until the situation improves.

Although collision rates won’t be considered until 2002, Alberta Transportation is immediately prepared to monitor fleets based on their Out of Service rates.
