OKOTOKS, Alta. — An Alberta woman has received a 12-month conditional sentence and was ordered to repay $86,078 stolen from her ex-father-in-law’s trucking company.

Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Scott Brooker, however, avoided sending Cathe Lynn LeGuyder, 43, to prison. The first six months of the penalty will be served as house arrest.

Brooker said although the woman’s then common-law husband Robert Brown was a partial owner of Lloyd Brown Trucking in Okotoks, Alta., the money had been taken from the company and that’s where restitution should be made.

LeGuyder had pleaded guilty to theft on Jan. 16.

The court heard she had altered 86 cheques between May 1, 1996, and May 30, 1999. At the time, she was office manager at Lloyd Brown.
