AMTA safety advisor honoured with coveted award

LETHBRIDGE, Atla. (Oct. 4, 2004) — The Alberta Motor Transport Association’s Southern Alberta Injury Reduction & Training Advisor John Tessier was recently honoured with one of the world’s most prestigious safety awards.

Tessier was presented with the Outstanding Service Award by the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP) in front of an audience of over 250 industry members at the National Truck Driving Championships Awards banquet in Lethbridge, Alta.

NASP and its parent organization the International Association of Safety Professionals (IASP) act as consultative advisors on workplace health and safety to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. IASP — whose mandate is to promote higher standards of workplace health and safety around the world — currently operates in 42 countries under authority of the Secretary General of the United Nations. The association has only one purpose: to promote higher standards of workplace health and safety around the world.

The award was handed down from Dr. Thomas Hardin, who is the Director General of IASP. John Sengl of Canadian Freightways Ltd. in Lethbridge presented Tessier with the coveted award.

Only safety professionals who have consistently demonstrated the highest levels of achievement and commitment to workplace health and safety, above and beyond that which is normally expected of a person in a comparable position, receive the rare award. In addition, Tessier has received a lifetime membership into NASP/IASP as a result of his lifetime efforts in the field of Health and Safety.
