APTA names top truck drivers

MASSTOWN, N.S. (June 16, 2004) — The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association has named Atlantic Canada’s top truck drivers who put their skills to the test on a challenging obstacle course set up at Commercial Safety College in Masstown, N.S.

Organized through the APTA Safety Council, this year’s Atlantic Driving Championship saw forty-six professional truck drivers go head to head for the precision drive.

Top Honours in the five-axle class (3-axle tractor and 2-axle trailer) went to Alan Constantine of Armour Transportation Systems in Moncton, NB. The best driver in the four-axle class (2-axle tractor and 2-axle trailer) was Herb Peters of Day & Ross Inc. The premiere driver in the two-axle class (straight truck) was Roy Mattinson of Roy B. Mattinson & Sons Trucking. The champion of the newly added B-Train category was Maurice Calhoun of RST Industries Inc. in Saint John, NB.

The Rookie of the Year award went to Tom Tapley of Sunbury Transport Limited,, while the Team Award was handed to Sandy Cooke, Tim Cook, Dollard LeBlanc, Alan Constantine, Gerald Cross of Armour Transportation Systems.
