LOUISVILLE, Ky. — ArvinMeritor’s new lightweight wheel hubs promise to provide reduced component weight and allow for increased truck payload.

Designed to nevertheless be heavy duty, the hubs are available for all popular trailer applications and will be released starting in May.

The new line of Meritor hubs accompany TN, TQ, TP and LMC series axles and will offer reduced weight without sacrificing strength and durability. To meet all carrier needs, the hubs were designed to fit trailer axles for various applications.

The LMC hub is a part of a unitized wheel end that contains a fully sealed, lubricated cartridge bearing. This eliminates seal leaks and provides precise bearing adjustment to reduce downtime and increase wheel end life.

“A significant advantage for all of the new hubs includes efficient internal cavities that reduce the amount of expensive lubricant required for the wheel end while improving dynamic lubrication for the bearings,” says Rakesh Sachdev, vice-president and general manager, Worldwide Braking Systems.

The company was able to reduce the weight of the hubs 15 to 20 percent, yet still achieve maximum highway gross axle weight ratings.
