ArvinMeritor secures driveline supply deal with Volvo, Mack

TROY, Mich. (Jan. 5, 2004) – ArvinMeritor has reached an agreement to supply Meritor Permalube U-joint drivelines to Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks.

The five-year supply agreements represent new business wins for ArvinMeritor’s Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS) business group. Meritor Permalube RPL U-joint drivelines will be standard equipment on Volvo VN linehaul tractors, while Meritor RN U-joint drivelines will be standard equipment on all Mack tractors, with the RPL driveline to be offered as an option.

The Volvo agreement begins Feb. 16; the Mack deal is effective March 1.

The Permalube RPL includes a high-strength, compact design that eliminates the need for periodic greasing. The RN series, available for multiple applications, including linehaul, city delivery and construction vehicles, is designed to keep lubrication in and contaminants out, absorb metallic debris, and accommodate varying yoke dimensions. The component will be assembled at ArvinMeritor’s Manning, S.C., and St. Thomas, Ont., facilities.

ArvinMeritor said the contracts are indicative of a growing global partnership with the Volvo Group, especially in the field of drivetrain products.
