B.C. reefer fleet bolsters lease/op pay

CLOVERDALE, B.C. — Coastal Pacific Xpress is increasing its pay rates for lease and owner/operators, effective immediately.

The new rate offers a substantial increase over the previous and many competitive pay scales. The new rate for most CPX owner/operators will be $1.20 per loaded mile between B.C. and Alberta and even higher for shorter hauls. For example, the company notes a Vancouver to Kelowna trip would include a rate of $1.28 per mile.

“This is an extraordinarily high rate and the increase comes at a time when many carriers are restructuring and reducing their pay rates to reflect the current financial realities they face,” says the company. “The company has also instituted a formal policy to address the desire for scheduled runs for drivers with sufficient seniority.”

According to the company, this puts at least 65 per cent of the Canadian fleet on fixed miles each month, which leads to predictable quality miles and revenue. With a fleet average over 11,000 miles per month, year-round, CPX says it can offer very consistent work for its fleet.
