Bison stampede into Eastern Canada

While the moose have all but taken over Toronto, the Bison has decided to settle down a little further west.

Winnipeg-based Bison Transport, a company that has expanded from 18 tractors and 32 employees in 1991 to 525 tractors and 800 staff today, will officially open a 20,000-square-foot maintenance and driver facility in Mississauga, Ont. July 25. The $4.5 million, around-the-clock terminal, which is equipped with 10 service bays, inspection and lube pits, showers, laundry, an automatic truck wash and a lounge, marks Bison’s first maintenance facility in Eastern Canada.

Bison president Don Streuber said the ideal location was important because it puts the company close to the airport and one of the highest volume regions of suppliers, vendors, dealerships and highways in Canada.

The terminal, located off Hwy. 401 at 5850 Shawson Dr. in Mississauga, will employ 40 people and plans to add another 100 Toronto-based long-haul truckers in the next year.

The company’s vice president of operations Rob Penner will manage the new site.
