BNSF launches intermodal service to Mexico
FORT WORTH, Tex. (April 17, 2000) — The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co. will commence intermodal service between U.S. cities and Monterrey, Queretaro, and Mexico City, Mexico, this week, the railroad’s first foray south of the border.
Starting April 20, BNSF will provide daily service from Laredo, Tex., using interchange partners Texas-Mexican Railway Co. (Tex-Mex) and Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana (TFM). The railroad said freight will clear Customs at its destination rather than at the border.
