Canadian HOS Policy About Two Weeks Away

LOS ANGELES –{October 21,1999} The Calgary Sun is reporting Brian Orrbine, Transport Canada’s senior adviser on motor carrier road safety, has told the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board that changes to Canadian Hours of Service regulation will be announced in about two weeks.

Orrbine told a U.S. transportation safety panel examining road safety under the North American Free Trade Agreement that truckers will soon be putting in shorter workdays.

While Orrbine was not specific in his comments to the board, he later said that new regulations would restrict Canadian truckers to a 14-hour workday, one hour less than the current 15-hour limit.
