CANADIAN RIGS GUZZLE MORE DIESEL IN JANUARY

OTTAWA, Ont. — Statistics Canada says 1,858,100 cubic meters of diesel fuel was sold in January, up 4.9 per cent from 1.770,800 in January 2000.

Overall, 8,025,000 cubic meters of refined petroleum products were sold in Canada in the period, up 7.7 per cent from January a year earlier.

Refined petroleum products include diesel, gasoline, aviation fuel, light and heavy fuel oil and “petrochemical feedstocks.”

Statistics Canada notes that the figures for January are preliminary, and the figures for 2000 have been revised.
