Canadian spot market freight volumes weaken

TORONTO, Ont. — Canadian spot market freight volumes fell for the second straight month in November, according to the latest TransCore Link Logistics Canadian Freight Index.

Volumes were down 8% compared to October and down 28% compared to November 2014’s historically high numbers.

Cross-border loads leaving Canada dropped 12% and loads coming into Canada were down 39% year-over-year, TransCore reports. Intra-Canada load volumes were down 22% y-o-y.

Equipment capacity also dropped slightly in November, down 3% from October but up 38% year-over-year. The equipment-to-load ratio was up, to 3.84, from 3.67 in October, representing a 91% increase year-over-year when the ratio was 2.01 last November.
